A Deep Diving in Afro-Brasilian Music & Culture
In short: BATALA is an international percussion group that was founded by the Brazilian percussionist Mestre Giba Goncalves dos Santos, back in 1997. Our music (samba reggae style) that was born in Salvador, Bahia, northeast of Brazil, finds its roots in African traditional rhythms of candomble and has a heavy dose of Brazilian samba. Our group performs with four different types of drums and produces a powerful sound that rouses your senses. This year, Batala Atenas proudly present the 2nd Batala Summer DrumCamp that is going to be held on the beautiful island of Paros, in the heart of the Aegean Sea in Greece.

Accommodation for the entire 7-day stay will be at a camping on the beautiful beach of Santa Maria, in Paros, Greece. Santa Maria Beach is located near Naoussa, in Plastira Bay, and is a long coastline divided in two sandy beaches with crystal emerald waters, with a beautiful sunrise view over the island of Naxos. It is fully organized, with a beach bar, sun beds, beach umbrellas and water sports facilities for windsurfing, scuba diving, paddle boats, etc. Bungalows, beach huts and the open space for tents are all located just behind the beach. Paros, one of the most typical Cycladic islands, is famous for the traditional architecture, the lovely beaches and its nightlife. Parikia and Naoussa are the main villages of Paros, where most activities are taking place.
